How to get awesome images from your event!

Birthday party|a-picture.co.uk

We have taken photographs at many celebratory events; birthday parties, christenings, weddings, book launches etc. consequently we have an idea or two as to what ingredients make the resulting images fantastic.

The next 5 tips will help you to ensure that the images you get from your happy event keep making you happy for many years to come!

1. Keep your guests in the loop

Be sure to let your guests know that there will be a professional photographer in attendance. People are notoriously afraid of the camera but if you tell them in advance then this will give them the opportunity to dress to impress and make sure that they are camera ready. Your guests will arrive expecting to be photographed and know what to expect. It avoids those awkward photographs where the subject looks completely uncomfortable and unhappy with being photographed.

2. Prep your venue

Invest a little time & money in getting your venue camera ready. The backdrop to your images is very important; it can make or break your images so give some thought to dressing/styling your venue if it doesn’t have a natural aesthetically pleasing look. You can easily do this by displaying flowers in pretty vases, using balloons , covering eyesores with pretty fabrics, displaying sculptures or lanterns and making a feature of a dessert or sweet table. There are many options for you to give some life to your venue and interest to your images

3. Set the tone for your event

As the host of your event it is important that you think about the type of get together that you want; is it important to you that everyone is up and dancing? If so then you need to be up and dancing. If you want a more sedate event where there is lots of intimate conversations then you need to mingle with all of your guests and introduce those who would get on well together. Think about the atmosphere that you want to capture and work towards creating that.

4. Keep your photographer in the loop

Take the time to share with your photographer the essential people who are a must to photograph. This ensures that there are no disappointments once you review your images. Briefly introduce your nan to the photographer so that she knows s/he has been hired to take pictures and doesn’t get annoyed with this stranger putting a camera in her face! Point out any items in particular that you want photographed, for example if you are displaying anything of special or importance for example a lit candle for guests who are no longer with us.

5. Coordinate your photography booking

You will want to coordinate your photography booking to start when

there is action taking place. If you know that your guests are always late don’t book your photographer to arrive from the start of your event and only for a few hours, he will be leaving when the action is just starting and the images you will get will be of people sitting around, nice but not particularly interesting to look at.
